DUBAI: India had defeated arch-rival Pakistan by six wickets in the Super 4 stage of the Asia Cup on Sunday, marking their second consecutive win over Pakistan in the tournament. Following the victory, the Indian team head coach Gautam Gambhir’s Instagram story celebrating the win has gone viral on social media.
Gambhir shared pictures of Indian openers Abhishek Sharma and Shubman Gill in his story with the caption 'Fearless', highlighting the team’s bold performance. Several cricket personalities, including BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla and former players Irfan Pathan, Harbhajan Singh, Sanjay Manjrekar, and Yuvraj Singh, also congratulated the Indian team.
While India had dominated Pakistan in the group stage with a nine-wicket win, the Super Four clash proved more competitive. Batting first, Pakistan posted a strong total of 171/5, their highest T20 score against India. Sahibzada Farhan (58) and Faheem Ashraf (20*) played key innings to help Pakistan reach this total.
Chasing the target, Indian openers Abhishek Sharma (74) and Shubman Gill (47) led the charge, taking apart Pakistan’s bowling attack. Batting aggressively without taking any risks, the duo put on a 105-run partnership in just 9.5 overs, easing pressure on India’s middle order. This win marks India’s fourth consecutive victory in the tournament. Next, India will face Bangladesh on Wednesday and Sri Lanka on Tuesday.
