
HUBLI: Jammu and Kashmir won the Ranji Trophy for the first time in history. The final match, held in Hubballi, Karnataka, ended in a draw, but J&K was declared the champion based on their 291-run first-innings lead.
Jammu and Kashmir ended a long wait of 67 years by defeating eight-time champions Karnataka at their home ground.
Karnataka's reply to Kashmir's first innings of 584 was 293. Continuing to bat on the fifth day, Jammu and Kashmir scored 342 runs for the loss of four wickets. With this, both the teams agreed to a draw. Score Jammu and Kashmir 584, 342-4, Karnataka 293. Jammu and Kashmir's opener Qamran Iqbal scored 160 not out and Sahil Lothra scored 101 not out in the second innings. With this, Jammu and Kashmir won its first title.
Ranji champions Jammu and Kashmir will get a prize money of Rs 5 crore. Runners-up Karnataka will get Rs 3 crore. BCCI President Mithun Manhas said that the victory will give a lot of confidence to the young players of Kashmir. Chief Minister Omar Abdullah was also present to witness the victory of Jammu and Kashmir.
