SYDNEY: India lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. Australia won the Test series by defeating India by six wickets and regained the title. India had set a target of 162 runs to win. Australia surpassed it before the end of the third day.
Australia defeated India in the second Test after their win in the first Test. When rain came to India's rescue in the third Test, Australia won the fourth and fifth Tests. This is the first time Australia has won the Border-Gavaskar Trophy since the 2017-19 season.
Chasing a target of 162 runs, Australia were reduced to 58-3 but Usman Khawaja, Travis Head and Beau Webster batted well to reach the target for the loss of four wickets. India dealt a major blow when captain Bumrah was ruled out of the second innings due to an injury. South Africa will face Australia in the final of the World Test Championship.
