AHMEDABAD: Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined lakhs after suffering a huge defeat against Gujarat Titans in the IPL match held yesterday. Sanju Samson was fined Rs 24 lakhs after his team maintained a slow over-rate. Rajasthan Royals' second over-rate of the season is evident. This was his team’s second offence of the season. Slow over rate is the delay in finishing the overs.
Not only Sanju, other members of the team have also been fined. The playing XI will have to pay a fine of Rs 6 lakh or 25 percent of their individual match fee. Sanju Samson is the fifth captain to be fined this season for violating the IPL code of conduct. Mumbai Indians' Hardik Pandya, Rajasthan Royals' Riyan Parag, Lucknow Super giants’ Rishabh Pant and Royal Challengers Bangalore's Rajat Patidar are the other captains who have been fined.
Rajasthan Royals are presently at seventh position in the IPL 2025 points table. Gujarat, who lost the toss and opted to bat in Ahmedabad yesterday, scored 217 runs for the loss of six wickets in the stipulated 20 overs, but Rajasthan was limited to 159 runs in 19.2 overs. Gujarat won by 58 runs. Sanju and his team are preparing to face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the match to be held on April 13 to recover from the embarrassment they suffered against Gujarat Titans.
