CHENNAI: Former Indian captain M.S. Dhoni is a personality who commands a massive fan following even among fellow cricketers. Despite being 43 years old, Dhoni remains active in the IPL. However, his team, Chennai Super Kings, is currently at the bottom of the IPL points table. Dhoni’s continued participation in the IPL at this age has drawn criticism, even from former players.
Now, legendary wicketkeeper and Dhoni's favourite player, Adam Gilchrist, has publicly expressed that Dhoni should retire. Speaking on a Cricbuzz chat show, Gilchrist said that Dhoni has nothing left to prove—whether in the IPL or international cricket—and that there’s no doubt MS Dhoni is an iconic player.
Dhoni, who has led Chennai Super Kings to five IPL titles and has brought India the ICC World Cup, T20 World Cup, and Champions Trophy, is one of the most successful captains in history. Gilchrist made these comments ahead of Chennai’s match against Punjab Kings.
"Dhoni has nothing to prove to anyone anymore. He knows what he needs to do. But in the future, next year, I don't think he needs to be here. I love you MS, you are a champion and an icon," said Gilchrist.
