HARARE: The young Indian team led by Shubman Gill suffered a shocking 13-run defeat against Zimbabwe in the first T20I match at the Harare Sports Club on Saturday. Except for skipper Gill, none of the Indian batters could hold on, making it impossible for India to overcome the small target of 116 runs. Zimbabwe leads 1-0 in the five-match series.

Chasing a target of 116 runs, India lost opener Abhishek Sharma 0(4) in the first over itself. India was humbled as none of the leading batsmen could cross double figures apart from captain Shubman Gill 31(29). Ruturaj Gaikwad 7(9), Riyan Parag 2(3), Rinku Singh 0(2) and wicketkeeper Dhruv Jurel 6(14) disappointed. Washington Sundar 27(34) held on till the last over, but there was no support at the other end.
Ravi Bishnoi 9(8) and Avesh Khan 16(12) struggled, while Mukesh Kumar 0(3) was out for no runs. Khalil Ahmad 0*(1) remained not out. Tendai Chatara and captain Sikandar Raza took three wickets each for Zimbabwe. Brian Bennett, Wellington Masakadza, Blessing Muzarabani and Luke Jongwe took one wicket each.
