KOCHI: Sukanth Suresh, accused in the death case of Intelligence Bureau (IB) official, has surrendered before the police. He surrendered at the Ernakulam Central Police Station. He surrendered soon after the Kerala High Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea Monday morning. Justice Bechu Kurian Thomas rejected his plea saying that the charge of abetment to suicide against the accused prima facie stands. The court had also verbally stated that the accused could surrender.

Sukanth had filed a bail plea claiming that he was innocent in her death. He claimed that he was in love with her and that she committed suicide due to pressure from her family who opposed this relationship. However, the court said the investigation of the case revealed different things. The accused had more than a relationship. The woman had even sent her salary to the accused. The accused had dominated the woman in every way.

The high court had expressed displeasure for not arresting Sukanth. The court, which asked how a person could remain in hiding for two months in modern times, also rejected the explanation of the police. The prosecution alleged that the accused had also exploited another colleague. The victim was mentally and physically abused. She was also exploited financially. The family alleged that the reason for the suicide was his withdrawal from the marriage.
