KYIV: Twenty-one people were killed and around 25 others injured when Russian forces carried out an airstrike in eastern Ukraine during the distribution of pensions. The attack took place in Yarova, a settlement in the Donetsk region, striking civilians who were waiting in line to collect their payments.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of deliberately targeting civilians and said the attack was clear proof of Moscow’s disregard for international law. The war between Russia and Ukraine, ongoing for 42 months, has claimed the lives of many civilians, with several people, including children, reported missing. In late August, a Russian missile strike on the Ukrainian capital Kyiv killed around 23 people in a single night, causing heavy destruction in different parts of the country.
Zelenskyy urged the international community to strongly condemn such attacks and maintain pressure on Russia.
