PATHANAMTHITTA: Accused Sreekumar was sentenced to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs one lakh in the Kalanjoor Ananthu murder case. The verdict was given by the Pathanamthitta District Additional Sessions Court. In February 2023, Sreekumar killed his neighbour Ananthu on suspicion of having an affair with his wife. It was initially thought that 27-year-old Ananthu had fallen into a canal and died. The murder came to light during a scientific investigation. The police found that Sreekumar had beaten Ananthu to death and pushed him into the canal.

On the day of the incident, Sreekumar waited to get Ananthu alone, who was consuming liquor with his friends inside an estate. After his friends returned, Ananthu started walking while talking on the phone when Sreekuamr came from behind and beat him to death with an iron rod. After that, the body was dumped in a canal about 400 meters from the scene of the incident. The police found the iron rod and Ananthu's mobile phone abandoned by the accused in the canal. This became crucial evidence in the case.

The prosecution told the media that the accused was convicted based on circumstantial evidence collected by the police. The verdict also states that the accused committed an extremely heinous crime.
