Onam gift for expats, health insurance scheme of Rs 5 lakh, coverage for present diseases

DUBAI: Ahead of Kerala Piravi, 'Norka Care' is implementing an insurance scheme that has never been implemented before for expatriate Malayalees. The Norka Care insurance scheme is an insurance plan that provides health coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh for treatment to expatriates and up to Rs 10 lakh in case of accidental deaths. People can avail cashless treatment at more than 14,000 hospitals across India, including 410 hospitals in Kerala.

The scheme aims to provide financial security to expatriates and their families and ensure quality healthcare and support in times of emergency. The annual premium for a family of four, including husband, wife and two children, is Rs 13,275 including GST. If there are more than two children, an additional Rs 4,130 will have to be paid. Rs 7965 is for individual insurance. Children below 25 are included in the family insurance coverage.

The plan is open to Keralite expats holding a NORKA Pravasi/NRK ID Card. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will officially launch the programme on September 22 from Thiruvananthapuram. Expats will have a one-month window (till October 22) to enroll. Applicants must first obtain a NORKA ID through the official website to enroll in the insurance plan. The ID card is valid for three years. The official policy document will be released on November 1.

Meetings are being organized in the UAE to take the scheme to the expatriates. After the meeting in Abu Dhabi, the next meeting will be held in Sharjah at 6.30 pm today.
