WASHINGTON: Multibillionaire and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk has been nominated for the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. European Parliament member Branko Grims confirmed that a formal nomination has been submitted to the Norwegian Nobel Committee. According to Grims, the nomination recognizes Musk’s contributions to freedom of speech and human rights.
Musk is the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX and the owner of the social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter. He had previously stated that his acquisition of X was driven by his commitment to protecting free speech. Additionally, Musk served as the head of the Government Efficiency Office during the Trump administration.
According to the Nobel Committee’s website, the deadline for submitting nominations is February 1. The committee will select the Nobel laureates through a majority vote, with the winners announced in October. The Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony is scheduled to take place in Oslo, Norway, on December 10.
