NEW DELHI: In the wake of the Israel-Iran conflict, the Indian government has begun evacuating its citizens from both countries. As part of this effort, 110 students who were evacuated from Iran via Armenia landed in Delhi early this morning. In Israel, plans are being made to transport Indian nationals to the border and bring them back by air. The Ministry of External Affairs has requested interested individuals to contact the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv.
Indians in Israel must register at the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv (https://www.indembassyisrael.gov.in/indian_national_reg). The embassy has set up a control room, which can be reached by phone at +972 54-7520711 or +972 54-3278392, or by email at cons1.telaviv@mea.gov.in. The embassy has also advised all Indian nationals in Israel to remain vigilant.
Meanwhile, among the 100 students evacuated from Iran, 90 are from Jammu and Kashmir. There was public outcry over the poor quality of buses arranged by the J&K government for their return home. The issue was resolved after the intervention of Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who ensured better transport facilities. According to the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association, around 600 students travelled over 1,000 kilometres by road to reach Mashhad city in Iran. From there, they are being flown to Delhi via Turkmenistan. Of these, around 500 students are from Jammu and Kashmir.
