Voting rights for women in Synod, presence in G7 summit; Pope who created a revolution in Catholic diocese

ROME: Pope Francis, the leader of the Roman Catholic Church, was always different from his predecessors. The reforms he implemented were the greatest examples of that. The most important of these reforms was the one implemented by Pope Francis, including the right to vote for women and other representatives in the Synod of Bishops.

Although women were allowed to participate in the Synods, the Pope's advisory body, they did not have the right to vote. With this, nuns participating in the meeting were also able to vote in religious actions along with priests. He had announced that 70 non-bishop representatives with voting rights would be included in the Synod, and half of them would be women.

Earlier, women had the opportunity to participate in the meeting only as spectators. The Pope made a historic decision to correct criticism that the Vatican considered women as second class. Only men could vote earlier. However, with the new decision, five nuns were able to vote along with priests. The Pope also ordered the appointment of 70 non-bishop members to the synod.

Francis is also the first pope in history to attend a G7 summit. He attended the session on artificial intelligence, energy, and Africa-Mediterranean at the summit in Apulia, Italy. Addressing the session, he called on the world to ban deadly autonomous weapons. He reminded that the development and use of such devices in the context of armed conflicts is dangerous. He also commented on the potential dangers of artificial intelligence, including its application on the battlefield.
