THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: As the dust settles on the heated rhetoric of front-line leaders and the intricate projections of party cadres, Kerala awaits the definitive word of the electorate. By 11:00 AM today, the political landscape of the state and its next administration are expected to come into sharp focus.
The counting process kicks off at 8:00 AM with postal, home, and service ballots. However, the Election Commission (EC) has indicated that the first official trends will likely stem from EVM counts, which begin at 8:30 AM. In a bid for transparency and real-time updates, the EC will upload round-by-round data directly to results.eci.gov.in.
Chief Electoral Officer Ratan U. Khelkar noted that while media outlets may broadcast early unofficial trends regarding postal ballots, the official verification of these votes often lags behind EVM counts due to the rigorous resolution of agent grievances.
Security and Protocol
Security is at a premium. Strongrooms will be unsealed at 7:00 AM under the watchful eyes of candidate representatives, away from the glare of media cameras. Access to counting centres is strictly regulated via QR-coded identification, scrutinised by CRPF units.
Final verdict
Prioritising "accuracy over speed," the Commission has set a 5:00 PM target for the formal declaration of results. Officials have been cautioned that any procedural negligence will meet with strict disciplinary measures. The massive logistical operation is supported by over 15,000 officials and a security detail exceeding 32,000 personnel.
