Setback for Suriya-Trisha film ‘Karuppu’; first show cancelled

CHENNAI: The first screening of Suriya-Trisha's film Karuppu, which was scheduled to release today, has been cancelled. The release was scheduled for 9 am today. Hours before the first screening, one of the film's producers, S R Prabhu, announced the cancellation through X. There are unconfirmed reports that the release was delayed due to financial issues. The film was scheduled for its first screening with the special permission of Chief Minister Vijay. Karuppu is a film in which Suriya and Trisha reunite after two decades. There was much discussion about Vijay's special permission for the film's screening schedule after assuming the post of chief minister.

Dream Warrior Pictures shared a photo of Vijay from the chief minister's office on social media to announce the special show. The post was shared to express gratitude to the Honorable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu for granting special permission for the shows at 9 am. The makers also announced that the film will be screened for five times a day on the first two days of the release.

Karuppu is an action drama written and directed by R J Balaji. Along with Suriya and Trisha, Indrans, Natty Nataraj, Swasika, Sivada, Anagha Maya Ravi and Supreeth Reddy also play the lead roles in the film. Sai Abhyankar has composed the music. Director R J Balaji had earlier shared that there were financial problems and he was confident that the producers would resolve them.

Following S R Prabhu's announcement that the show had been cancelled, many fans left comments expressing their disappointment. Fans say that they have been waiting for the film for more than two years.
