NEW DELHI: 80 percent of the candidates who contested in the sixth phase of polls held yesterday are crorepatis. This was stated in a report released by the Association for Democratic Reforms and The National Election Watch. 94 percent of the BJP's candidates and 80 percent of the Congress-Aadmi Party's candidates are billionaires. Businessman Naveen Jindal, who contested as a BJP candidate in Haryana's Kurukshetra constituency, is in the first position with Rs 1241.47 worth of assets.
Biju Janata Dal's Santrupt Mishra (482.21 crores) and Aam Aadmi Party's Sushil Gupta (169.57 crores) are in the second and third positions.
889 candidates contested in the sixth phase. 180 of them are accused in criminal cases, of which 141 persons have been charged with serious offences.
