CHENNAI: Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam leader Vijay, hitherto cocooned in his Chennai residence following the tragedy in Karur, left his home this morning, ignoring police warnings. Vijay was at his residence in Neelankarai from 2 am last night to 10 am today. He left the house at 10 am in his Lexus car. The exact location where he is heading remains unknown.
As per reports, Vijay may be heading towards the party headquarters or to the airport.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the Tamil Nadu police will register a case today against Vijay, who organised the rally that led to the tragic death of 41 people. The state police chief has reportedly informed Chief Minister M.K. Stalin that a case will be registered even if there is no court order in this regard. The police will make arrangements to avoid any law and order problems in case of an arrest. The Chief Minister has also received legal advice to register a case against Vijay and proceed with legal action.
DMK earlier showed caution not to go ahead with a case against Vijay for fear that TVK would turn it into a political weapon to evoke empathy from the crowd. However, DMK party deputy general secretary Kanimozhi MP yesterday scathingly attacked Vijay and blamed TVK for the death of commoners in Karur. Demands for Vijay's arrest were raised from various parts of Tamil Nadu. Students staged a demonstration at Vijay's house.
However, so far, a case has been registered against TVK State General Secretary Bussy Anand, Joint Secretary CT Nirmal Kumar and Karur District Secretary Mathiyazhakan. The case is under sections including culpable homicide.
