CHENNAI: Army Chief Upendra Dwivedi said Operation Sindoor was a game of chess. He added that the army was not sure about the enemy's next move and therefore it was like a game of chess. He said that on one hand they were watching them and on the other hand there was a possibility of losing lives. Upendra Dwivedi was speaking at an event held at IIT Madras.
The Indian Army carried out the operation in a short time. We did not know what the enemy’s next move was going to be, and what we were going to do. This is called the grey zone, he said. Somewhere we were giving them the checkmate and somewhere we were going in for the kill at the risk of losing our own but that’s what life is all about.
'If you ask a Pakistani whether you have lost or won, he will say that my chief has become a field marshal. We must win, that is why he has become a field marshal,' he said, referring to the Pakistan government's decision to elevate Army Chief Asim Munir to the rank of field marshal. After the terrorist attack in Pahalgam on April 22, a meeting was held on April 23 by top military and political leaders. Upendra Dwivedi added that the armed forces were given complete freedom by the political leadership and that it boosted our morale.
