
PATNA: The first phase of voting in the Bihar Assembly election is moving into its final hours. The latest figures available are up to 5 p.m. According to these numbers, the polling percentage stands at 60.13%. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, ministers Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, INDIA bloc’s chief ministerial candidate and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Rajiv Ranjan Singh were among the prominent leaders who cast their votes.
A total of 1,314 candidates are in the fray across 121 constituencies, including Raghopur, where Tejashwi Yadav is contesting and Tarapur, where BJP’s Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary is contesting. Among the candidates, 122 are women, and Priti Kinnar, contesting from Bhore on behalf of the Jan Suraaj Party, is a transgender candidate. The first phase covers 3.75 crore voters across 18 districts. The voter list used for polling was prepared after a Special Integrated Revision (SIR). The second phase of polling, covering 122 constituencies in 20 districts, will be held on the 10th of this month.
Meanwhile, stones were thrown at the convoy of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha. The incident took place in his own constituency, Lakhisarai. The incident happened this afternoon when a crowd blocked his convoy, threw stones and shoes, and shouted slogans. Sinha alleged that RJD “goons” were behind the attack. The attack happened while he was visiting polling booths. However, the police said it was a protest by locals.
