NEW DELHI: Having secured the support of NDA allies, Narendra Modi will be sworn in as Prime Minister for the third time on 8th (Saturday) evening. The NDA meeting held at the Prime Minister's residence at 4 pm yesterday unanimously elected Modi as the leader.
Meanwhile, it is reported that Telugu Desam leader Chandrababu Naidu and JDU leader Nitish Kumar have offered support to the BJP for the third Modi government. What is being demanded is the post of Speaker and ministerial positions with important portfolios. TDP's main objective is to get the post of Lok Sabha Speaker, which was held by BJP in the first and second Modi governments. The demand is based on the fact that TDP leader GMC Balayogi was the speaker in Vajpayee's coalition government. Nitish asked for three cabinet ministers. Another important provision is a special status for Andhra and Bihar. It is not certain whether the BJP will give up the crucial speaker post to its ally. Modi will meet President Draupadi Murmu along with allied leaders on 7th and stake claim to form the government. Yesterday, Modi tendered his resignation letter to the President, vacating the current post.
Parties including the Shiv Sena and the Hindustani Awam Morcha, which has a single MP (Jitan Ram Manjhi), have demanded cabinet and ministerial posts in important departments.
With 240 seats, BJP needs the support of allies including TDP (16) and JDU (12) to form the government. Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh and BJP president JP Nadda will hold talks with allied leaders to decide the ministers.
