THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the Tamil film industry now clamouring for something similar to the Hema committee to be implemented in Kollywood, the Telugu industry is in full vigour demanding the release of the subcommittee report.
The big demand comes following the release of the Hema committee report that rocked the Malayalam industry. General Secretary Vishal announced that the Nadikar Sangam would form a committee in Tamil cinema, but actresses including Khushbu demanded that the committee be appointed by the government.
Actress Samantha and the organization 'Voice of Women' have come forward demanding the release of the sub-committee report that studied the problems in the Telugu film industry. In April 2018, actress Sri Reddy protested half-naked in front of the office of the 'Movie Artiste Association', alleging rampant casting couch and indecent advances against women in Telugu cinema. But the association suspended Sri Reddy terming her protest as a publicity stunt.
Sri Reddy released several screenshots of the sexual requests he received which corroborated the allegations. When the matter reached the High Court, a sub-committee was formed to study women's issues and gender inequality in the film industry.
The committee report was completed and submitted by June 2022 but haven’t seen the light of the day. It is feared that the report contains names of big names within the industry presaging explosive days in TFI. But actress Samantha says that this is necessary for the purification of the film industry.
