NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi attacked the Gandhi family during the debate on the Constitution in the Lok Sabha. Modi criticized Congress and Jawaharlal Nehru. Modi alleged that a family in Congress tried to sabotage the Constitution and that Nehru sabotaged the Constitution for personal gain. He also pointed out that Indira Gandhi's emergency was a black mark in Congress rule. "From 1947 to 1952 there was no elected government in this country. Even the freedom of the people was restricted." He also stated that emergency is the dark chapter in democracy. Modi indirectly criticized Rahul Gandhi for being arrogant.
"Political abuse was started by Nehru. Constitution was amended 75 times for personal gain. Indira continued what Nehru started. Indira declared an emergency to save her chair. Manmohan Singh said that the party is more important than the government. Sonia Gandhi played Super PM during Manmohan Singh's regime. Congress challenged the Constitution and insulted the architects of the Constitution. Nehru was a staunch opponent of reservation. The Congress had opposed the Mandal Commission. Reservation was misused for vote bank. Congress tried not to implement OBC reservation," Modi alleged.
"Indian culture is a model for the world. India is the mother of democracy. These 75 years have been extraordinary," he said in his reply speech in the Lok Sabha. Commemorating the architects of the Constitution, the Prime Minister stated that the Constitution was the foundation for women's empowerment and women played an important role in the making of the Constitution. Modi also said that the country will become the third economic power.
