NEW DELHI: The NIA has taken four doctors and two fertiliser sellers into custody in connection with the explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi. All four doctors are linked to Al Falah University in Faridabad.
Dr Jahnisar Alam, who completed his MBBS from Al Falah University in 2024, was detained from Uttar Dinajpur in West Bengal. He was taken to Siliguri and will be questioned by the NIA on Monday.
Former Al Falah University staff member Dr Rayees Ahmad Bhat was detained from Pathankot in Punjab. He is suspected to have been in contact with Dr Umar Nabi, identified by investigators as the suicide bomber in the Delhi blast. Dr Rayees worked at Al Falah University during 2020–2021. The NIA is questioning him to check whether he had any role in, or links to, what investigators describe as a “white-collar terror network” associated with Jaish-e-Mohammad. These are allegations under investigation.
Two other doctors, Dr Mustaqeem and Dr Rehan, who also completed MBBS from Al Falah University, were taken into custody from Nuh in Haryana. Dr Mustaqeem reportedly finished his apprenticeship at Al Falah on November 2 and is suspected to have travelled to Delhi on November 9. Dr Rehan was working at a private hospital in Nuh.
The two fertiliser sellers detained from Sohna, Haryana, are suspected by investigators of supplying chemicals to the group involved. These claims are still being probed.
The NIA is preparing to question more doctors from Al Falah University. The agency says that the phones of several individuals linked to the case are currently switched off.
