NEW DELHI: Google removed 10 matrimonial sites from Playstore, including those of leading companies from India. The reason behind the action is a dispute over payment of service fees. With this, lakhs of people who were about to get married through matrimonial websites will have to take an alternative route.
As part of the app payment, Google had demanded 11 percent to 26 percent from the companies. However, when the incident reached the court, there were two favourable judgments in January and February, including from the Supreme Court, in favour of Google.
Apps like Bharat Matrimony, Christian Matrimony, Muslim Matrimony, and Jodi were removed from Playstore on Friday. Murugavel Janaki Raman, founder of matrimony.com company said that this is a dark day for the Indian internet.
Representatives of the various removed companies say that they are studying the legal issues related to Google's actions in detail and are examining the requirements for a legal battle.
