KOTTAYAM: Some tourists, from Hyderabad, on their way to visit the ‘Venice of the East’ ended up in a stream, after duly following the directions from Google Maps. The accident took place in Kuruppanthara Kottayam on Saturday dawn at 3 am. Four Hyderabad natives who were in the car escaped with minor injuries.
It was after big efforts from the locals and police that the Ford Endeavor car was pulled back from the stream. The tourists were heading towards Alappuzha from Munnar when tragedy struck. The locals and the police laboured hard to rescue all four from the car.
Back in October, two young doctors died when their car fell into a river while travelling on an unknown route, assisted by Google Maps. They fell into the overflowing river. Back then, three people in the car were rescued by the locals.
Recently, many such cases were reported about Google Maps going awry resulting in tragic incidents. A few days ago, five people from Andhra, who were travelling in their car using Google Maps, entered an isolated route and later fell into a gorge.
