ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s former foreign minister and People's Party chairman Bilawal Bhutto said his country will wage a war if India denies water to Pakistan under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Soon after the Pahalgam terror attack, Union Home Minister Amit Shah had said that India will never restore the Indus Waters Treaty. Bilawal Bhutto spoke against India's move to suspend the treaty in the National Assembly Budget Session.
'India has two options: share water fairly, or we will take it from all six rivers. Either we divide the water as per the Indus Waters Treaty fairly. The Indus Waters Treaty no longer exists. India says it has been abrogated. It is illegal. That treaty has not been abandoned. It still binds India and Pakistan.
Not providing water as per the treaty is wrong as per the UN treaty. If India and Pakistan are not willing to talk to each other and work together against terrorism, terrorist attacks in both countries will only intensify. India is weaponizing terrorism for political purposes. India is trying to stop Pakistan's achievements on the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) front. Pakistan has struggled to get out of the FATF grey list and into the wait list. India is trying to get it back into the grey list by making false allegations,’ Bilawal alleged.
