MUMBAI: Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani announced a financial assistance of Rs 151 crore to his alma mater, the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT) in Mumbai. The announcement was made while attending the release of the book 'Divine Scientist', a biography of Professor MM Sharma, a former teacher at ICT.

Mukesh Ambani graduated from ICT, then known as the University Department of Chemical Technology (UDCT), in the 1970s. Ambani spent almost three hours at his alma mater after attending the book launch. Speaking at the event, Mukesh Ambani said that Professor Sharma's classes had a lasting impact on his life.

MUKESH AMBANI:

“Like my father Dhirubhai Ambani, Professor Sharma also had a strong desire to transform Indian industry. They all set out to lead the Indian industry to global leadership. Both these visionaries believed that science, technology and private enterprise could lead the country to prosperity.

The credit for eliminating the license permit raj, growing the Indian industry and making it globally competitive goes to the professor. The financial assistance of Rs 151 crore is being provided on his request. It is my Gurudakshina to professor.”
