NEW DELHI: Shashi Tharoor MP, continued his praise of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, much to the chagrin of the Congress leadership. Shashi Tharoor has come out praising the Narendra Modi government's mission to wipe out Maoist terror from the country. Tharoor's praise was in an article written in Project Syndicate. Earlier too, Tharoor had caused controversies over his adulation of Modi despite Congress leadership drawing the line on the Thiruvananthapuram MP.

“India’s violent Maoist insurgency – which at its 2013 peak, held considerable influence in 126 districts – appears to be on its last legs. This achievement attests to the power of a holistic and persistent development-driven approach to addressing complex internal security challenges.

The Modi government's approach is one of integrating security and development. Modi implemented the idea of the UPA government. When the government's iron fist was accompanied by the comforting touch of development, the mission was successful. This should continue. The government has made huge investments to increase the efficiency of the police in the security sector. It has provided modern weapons, better communication facilities, and special training for forest warfare and counter-insurgency," Tharoor said in the article.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah had announced that the Naxalite insurgency, which originated in the Naxalbari village of West Bengal in the 1960s, would be completely eradicated by March 2026.
