NEW DELHI: A flag war has been going on between India and Pakistan at the Attari border to erect the tallest flag. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to install an Indian flag at a height of 418 feet in response to Pakistan installing a 400-feet high flag. The contract process for this is in the final stage and the work will begin within twenty days.
In March 2017, a 360-feet tall flag was erected at the Indian border at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore. But by August of the same year, Pakistan had installed a 400 feet tall flag.
The location of the new flag will be determined as per the instructions of the BSF officials. It is also near the gallery next to the joint check post between the two countries. Visitors arriving here can also have a clear view of the flag. Thousands come here every day to witness the beating retreat ceremony.
A new flag will be installed but there are no plans to remove the current flag. A BSF official said that many people had demanded that the height of the Indian national flag, which seemed smaller than the Pakistani flag, be increased. Currently, the tallest flagpole in the country is at Belagavi Fort in Karnataka. Its height is 361 feet.
