THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Lieutenant General V Sreehari took charge as the General Officer Commanding of the Southern Region of the Army in Chennai. The Southern Region comprises the states of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, as well as the Union Territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep.
Lieutenant General V Sreehari is the son of the late Petty Officer M. Velayudhan Nair (Appunni) and Sulochana Nair, born in Wandoor Karayil, Malappuram. Sreehari served in the northern, eastern, and southern parts of the country, as well as in UN missions abroad. He commanded a Para Special Forces Battalion in Operation Rakshak, a base camp in Siachen Glacier, an Infantry Brigade in the Strike Corps and a Mountain Division in the North-Eastern Region. He served both as a Staff Officer and General Staff Officer in the United Nations Mission in Congo. Sreehari holds a Master's degree in Defence Studies from the University of Madras, a Master's degree in Management Studies from Osmania University, and an MPhil from the University of Madras.
Lieutenant General V Sreehari was awarded the Shaurya Chakra in 1998, the 31 RR (Commando) Sena Medal (Distinguished Services) in 2021, and the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2023. He received the Chief of Integrated Staff Committee Commendation Card in 2009 and the Chief of Army Staff Commendation Card in 2013. His wife, Uma Sreehari, is the daughter of Susheela of Muvattupuzha and Balakrishnan Nair, a native of Kavumkara. Sreehari’s daughter, Vedika Sreehari, works in Puducherry.
