PANAJI: Luthra brothers, the owners of the nightclub that caught fire at Arpora in Goa, killing 25, have been taken into custody. The authorities informed that Saurabh Luthra and Gaurav Luthra were taken into custody in Thailand and will be deported soon.
The fire broke out in the club Birch by Romeo Lane on December 7, around 12.04 am. The fire was first seen on the first floor, where the entertainment programmes are held. Presence of the easily inflammable objects like palm leaf, bamboo and timber used for construction as well as decoration and the narrow doors intensified the gravity of the accident. 25, including four foreigners were killed in the accident, of which 14 were the staff of the club. Many sustained injuries.
It is reported that the accident was caused by the use of electronic firecrackers without enough precautions. It was initially thought that the gas cylinder had exploded.
Goa magistrate-level investigation has started on the incident. Four, including the general manager of the club, were arrested. Gaurav Luthra and Saurabh Luthra fled to Thailand after this.
The passports of the Luthra brothers were suspended following this. Interpol had also issued a blue corner notice. Indian agencies have contacted Thailand earlier and provided the information regarding them. An investigation was conducted early today morning with local police at suspected places. Immigration procedures will begin shortly. Both will be brought to India by this evening or tomorrow.
