NEW DELHI: The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) announced senior leader C.P. Radhakrishnan as the Vice Presidential candidate. C.P. Radhakrishnan is currently serving as the Governor of Maharashtra. The decision to select the Vice Presidential candidate was taken at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting convened at the party headquarters. The Vice Presidential election will be held on September 9.
C.P. Radhakrishnan, considered a good administrator, is loved by all sections of the people of Tamil Nadu. The NDA had entrusted Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President J.P. Nadda with the task of selecting the Vice Presidential candidate.
The election was necessitated after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned as Vice President on July 21, citing health reasons. There were speculations that Dhankhar's resignation was due to political differences.
The NDA candidate is certain to win as it has a majority in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, it is reported that the INDI alliance will meet on August 18 to select the opposition candidate. All NDA Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers have been summoned to Delhi on August 21 to file their nominations.
