CHANDIGARH: Actor and BJP MP-elect Kangana Ranaut was allegedly slapped by a CISF officer at the Chandigarh airport on Thursday has led to people taking sides. Kulwinder Kaur, the said CISF officer, testified to investigators that she was provoked by Kangana's past reference to the farmers' strike.

"She gave a statement that the farmers are sitting there for ₹100. Will she go and sit there? My mother was sitting there and protesting when she gave this statement," Kaur was heard saying. A native of Kapurthala in Punjab, Kulwinder Kaur hails from a farming family. She has been now suspended.

The incident happened at 3.30 pm on Thursday when Kangana was about to board her flight to Delhi. The officer slapped her on the face during the security check. Kangana then lodged a complaint with the CISF officials at the airport and also informed the police.

Kangana alleged that the officer beat her up for not placing her phone in the tray as part of the security check. A special committee was appointed to investigate the incident. Later, the police registered a case against the officer. Kangana took to X to say that she is worried about the rise in terrorism in Punjab and that she is safe.

Meanwhile, farmer leaders have come forward in support of Kulwinder Kaur. Farmer leaders also shared suspicion that Kangana had used drugs and demanded a detailed investigation into the incident.

Controversial post

In December 2020, when the farmers' strike was going on, Kangana said on X that the farmers are on strike for Rs 100. In another post, Kangana said that those who are protesting in the name of farmers are terrorists. The Delhi Gurdwara Committee had then demanded an unconditional apology from Kangana. Later, Kangana's posts were removed. Also, Kangana's convoy was blocked by farmers on her way to the election campaign.

Kangana won from Mandi Lok Sabha constituency in Himachal Pradesh by defeating Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh by 74,755 votes. She is a big fan of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has spoken in support of him on issues such as the Citizenship Act and farmers' strike.
