PRATAPGARH: Search operations are still underway for the newlywed couple who went missing after a vehicle lost control and plunged into the Teesta River amid heavy rains in Sikkim. The couple from Uttar Pradesh had departed for Sikkim by train on May 25 and reached Mangan district in the state on May 26. The accident occurred on May 29 while they were returning from Lachung to Lachen. Reports indicate that the vehicle fell approximately 1,000 feet down into the river.
According to the police, nine people, including the newlyweds and the driver are still missing. The other passengers in the vehicle were from Uttar Pradesh, Tripura, and Odisha. The missing groom, Kaushalendra Pratap Singh (29), is a relative of BJP leader Umed Singh. The couple had gotten married on May 5.
Despite continuous search operations by SDRF and NDRF teams, no bodies or significant evidence have been recovered so far. Authorities have found the couple’s belongings in their hotel room, but there is still no conclusive evidence to confirm whether they drowned in the river.
