NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha members will now have to register their attendance by going to their seats in the House. The high-tech system will be in place from the monsoon session starting July 21. Multi-model devices have been installed on the seats. The usual method of signing the register in the lobby of the House of Parliament is coming to an end.

The authorities have clarified that the aim is to ensure the presence of members. Attendance is mandatory to get daily allowance. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister, ministers and the Leader of the Opposition have been exempted from recording attendance. Efforts are also being made to translate the speeches of members into different languages using an AI system in the monsoon session.

Three ways to register attendance

  1. Multi-media card
  2. By entering a special PIN
  3. Biometric method - by fingerprint
