NEW DELHI: Parliament will convene on the 16th, 17th, and 18th to deliberate on a Constitution Amendment Bill aimed at increasing the number of Lok Sabha and Legislative Assembly seats by 50%. This bill also includes a provision to reserve one-third of the total seats for women.
The Budget Session, which commenced in January, was originally scheduled to conclude this Thursday. However, the House was adjourned temporarily to allow for the introduction and passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill.
As this is a special sitting, the schedule will exclude Zero Hour, Question Hour, and other routine discussions. Notably, the previous iteration of the Women’s Reservation Bill was also passed during a special session in September 2023, marking the inaugural session of the new Parliament building. The decision to reconvene after the current break was made in light of the ongoing election campaigns in Kerala, West Bengal, Assam, and Tamil Nadu.
