NEW DELHI: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar said that peace on the border was essential to improve India-China relations. The Minister also called for caution to not turn differences into disputes or conflicts. This was stated during a meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, who is in India for a two-day visit.
"There should be a constructive approach from both sides. Mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest are mandatory. The fight against terrorism is important for both countries. " Jaishankar kept high hopes of the talks improving cooperation between the two countries. Wang Yi said that steps have been taken to reduce tensions on the border, and termed the resumption of the Kailash Mansarovar Yatra to have helped 'break the ice' between the two nations.
Wang Yi is in India for the India-China Special Representative Talks. Wang Yi will meet National Security Advisor Ajit Doval at 11 am on Tuesday. This is the 24th round of the India-China Special Representative Talks. Doval had visited China for the 23rd round of talks.
Wang Yi will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence at 7 Lok Kalyan Marg at 5.30 pm on Tuesday. This is Wang Yi's first visit to India.
The Chinese Foreign Minister's visit to India comes ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to China for the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit. The SCO summit will be held in Tianjin on August 31 and September 1.
