LUCKNOW: A woman who was thought to have been killed by her husband and family over dowry has returned after two years. The 20-year-old woman who went missing from her in-laws' house in Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district in 2023 was found in Madhya Pradesh. The woman was found after investigations by the Uttar Pradesh Police's Special Operations Group and surveillance teams.

The woman's family had registered a case with the police on October 23, 2023, following her disappearance. Subsequent investigations failed to find the woman. The woman's family alleged that the woman was killed by her in-laws over dowry, and the court ordered the registration of a case against her husband and relatives. Accordingly, a case was registered against the husband and his six relatives under sections including Section 304B (Dowry Death) of the Indian Penal Code. The case has been going on for about two years.

Auraiya Circle Officer Ashok Kumar said that the woman was found in Madhya Pradesh while the investigation was ongoing, and she was brought back to Auraiya on Wednesday. He added that the investigation is progressing further. Officials said that they are investigating what the woman was doing in Madhya Pradesh and why she has not tried to contact her family or her husband's relatives for so long. All these things will affect the case in court, added one of the officials.
