NEW DELHI: The Delhi police is conducting a search at CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury’s house in connection with ‘NewsClick’, a news portal. This was at a time when a raid was going on at the houses of journalists and employees of NewsClick. The raid is following the stay of an employee of the news portal at Yechury’s house in Delhi. The house was allotted by the government, but Yechury is not staying here.
There was an allegation that NewsClick has Chinese funding. The special cell of the Delhi police started the raid soon after this. A case has been registered against the portal on charges including UAPA. There are reports that two have been taken into custody. D Reghunandan, a member of the science forum and standup comedian Sanjay Rajoura are in custody. Reports said that no one has been arrested. The raid is going on at thirty places including Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. The police have seized laptops and mobile phones.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had earlier registered a case against the news portal for the allegation of accepting foreign fund. The ED found that foreign funds of Rs 38.05 crore have been swindled in the last three years. The investigation team also alleged that the news portal used this money for anti-national activities. The police are conducting a search based on ED’s information that illegal activities are taking place.
