Monsoon: Number of houses destroyed crosses thousand mark

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The revenue department said that 586 houses were partially damaged and 21 houses were completely damaged in the rains in the last 48 hours. With this, the number of houses damaged in the four days since the onset of the monsoon has crossed the thousand mark. More relief camps have been opened in Wayanad and Kozhikode districts. As of Monday, 229 people from 67 families have been shifted to 12 relief camps. Hundreds of trees were uprooted in the heavy rain and winds. Many areas are in darkness after electricity poles were damaged. 170 mm of rain was recorded in Thalassery and Ayyankunnu areas of Kannur in the last 24 hours. 160 mm in Peerumedu in Idukki and Vythiri in Wayanad district. 150 mm was recorded in Vadakara, Vellathooval (Idukki) and Chemperi (Kannur).

Flood risk

The State Disaster Management Authority has issued a flood risk warning for nine rivers as the water level has risen. Orange alert has been issued for Meenachil, Korappuzha, Achankovil and Manimala rivers, and yellow alert for Vamanapuram, Perumba, Bharathapuzha, Uppala and Kabani rivers.

Loss of Rs 56 crore for KSEB

KSEB has suffered huge losses due to the continuous rains for the last three days. In a high-level meeting convened by Power Minister K Krishnankutty, it was directed to take action on a war footing to restore the power supply. According to the available data, 1,596 high-tension posts and 10,573 low-tension posts were damaged. The loss in the distribution sector was approximately Rs 56 crore 77 lakh. The Minister directed to make the control rooms started on the basis of electrical circles more active and to ensure that the complaints received are resolved in a time-bound manner. He directed to take steps to ensure the availability of materials and to transport materials from offices with excess materials to other offices as per the requirement. It was also decided to ensure the availability of ring main units, posts, transformers, electricity wires and solar net meters.
