NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi began his maiden speech in the 18th Lok Sabha by chanting the slogan 'Jai Samvidhan', which means hailing the Constitution. Rahul Gandhi rose to speak amidst ‘Jai Shri Ram’ slogans from the opposite side.

The Rae Bareli MP, before his maiden address unveiled an image of the protector Lord Shiva to derive a message against hatred and fear.

Rahul Gandhi:

"The country came together and protected the constitution. I am happy that the BJP is calling Jai Samvidhan after me. There was a systematic and total attack on the idea of India, and the Constitution during the last few years. Many of us were personally attacked, while some leaders are still in jail.

Those who fought against authoritarianism, the attacks on the poor, Dalits and minorities were crushed by the ruling elites. I was attacked on the orders of the Central Government and the Prime Minister. The most enjoyable part was the 55 hours of interrogation by the ED.

I am happy and proud to be in the opposition. We have something stronger than power this time. Our prime minister said that Mahatma Gandhi rose to popularity only after the Hollywood movie ‘Gandhi’ which was released posthumously. The people are well aware of this ignorance from PM Modi.

All religions talk about courage. All our great sages have spoken about non-violence and the cessation of fear. But those who call themselves ‘Proud Hindus’ speak only of violence and hatred. Such people are not Hindus.

If you look at Lord Shiva's picture you will understand, that Hindus can never spread fear and hatred. But BJP is doing this 24 hours a day.

BJP's politics and policies have burnt Manipur and plunged the hilly state into a civil war. Prime Minister Modi is yet to pay a visit to the place. Due to demonetization and the GST debacle, the government has broken the backbone of commoners. Farmers want legally guaranteed MSP. But the government is not ready to give. If our government comes to power, we will withdraw the Agnipath project, because it is against the martyrs of the armed forces.
