Remarks against Supreme Court; letter seeking contempt of court action against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey

NEW DELHI: A contempt of court action has been sought against BJP MP Nishikant Dubey for his objectionable remarks against the Supreme Court verdict. Lawyer Anas Tanveer has written to Attorney General R Venkataramani seeking permission to take contempt of court action.

The letter states that Nishikant's remarks are defamatory and provocative. The BJP leaders have come up with remarks against the Supreme Court following the Supreme Court's order on the Waqf Amendment and the court's intervention in the issue of governors delaying bills.

Nishikant, an MP from Jharkhand, made a controversial remark that the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court is the cause of all the problems in the country. Anas Tanveer wrote a letter seeking permission to file a contempt of court case after the opposition and various party leaders came out against this. The letter points out that Nishikant Dubey recklessly attributes national unrest to the Hon'ble Chief Justice of India, thus scandalising the highest judicial office in the country and attempting to provoke public dissent, outrage and possible unrest.

Nishikant said that if the Supreme Court makes laws, it would be better to close the Parliament and the Legislative Assemblies. Nishikant said that the Supreme Court is imposing its own laws on the legislative power of the Parliament and is arrogantly interfering.

He also accused the Supreme Court of being responsible for inciting religious wars in the country. 'The Parliament makes the law of this country. You will dictate that Parliament?... How did you make a new law? In which law is it written that the President has to take a decision within three months?' Dubey asked.
