HYDERABAD: The police have filed a chargesheet against 24 people, including actor Allu Arjun, in the case of a woman's death in a stampede during the screening of Pushpa 2. The police filed the chargesheet in Hyderabad's Nampally court. The incident took place on December 4, 2024 at the Sandhya Theatre on RTC Cross Road in Hyderabad.
A woman named Revathi (39) died in a stampede of fans who had come to meet Allu Arjun in person. Her son Sreetej was seriously injured and was bedridden due to a lack of oxygen. The police found that the tragedy was caused by a lapse in following safety norms. Allu Arjun, the theatre management, the actor's personal manager, staff members and eight bouncers are among the accused in the case. Allu Arjun is the 11th accused in the case. The owner of the Sandhya theatre where the accident took place is the first accused.
The police had earlier denied permission for the actor's visit citing security concerns. The event was held in defiance of this ban. The investigation revealed that the private security team's movements and gestures towards the crowd had aggravated the situation.
Allu Arjun, who was arrested after the accident, was later released on bail. The case is entering the trial stage with the filing of the charge sheet. The family had demanded a huge compensation for the medical expenses of Sreetej and strict action against those responsible.
