
NEW DELHI: NCERT Class VIII students will have to study the judiciary in detail. The social science textbook has been revised to include the procedures related to the impeachment of judges and the challenges faced by the judiciary. A new chapter titled 'The role of the judiciary in our society' has been included. The structure, powers and responsibilities of the judiciary as the guardians of the constitution will be taught. The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) said that it was decided to revise the curriculum after detailed discussions. The revised textbook will reach schools soon.
Corruption in the Judiciary
The text also includes how to deal with corruption allegations against Supreme Court and High Court judges, the code of conduct to be followed by judges, etc. The power of the Supreme Court to strike down a law found unconstitutional and the powers of the legislature, executive and judiciary will also be taught.

Number of pending cases
The number of pending cases in various courts in the country has also been included in the textbook. The new textbook also states that this is due to shortage of judges, complex procedures and lack of infrastructure.
