NEW DELHI: Actor Vijay, who is all set to become active in politics, has suffered another setback over the release of Jana Nayagan, which was titled as his last film. The Supreme Court did not consider the plea filed by the producers against the Madras High Court order that stayed the release of the film. The bench headed by Justice Dipankar Dutta directed them to approach the division bench of the Madras High Court. With this, it is reported that the release of the film will be delayed.

Senior advocate Mukul Rohatgi filed an appeal for urgent Censor Board certification for the producers, KVN Productions. The division bench of the Madras High Court is scheduled to consider the plea on January 20 after Pongal vacation. The Supreme Court did not consider the plea, stating that it was not necessary to consider the plea at this stage. Earlier, the single bench of the Madras High Court had ordered to issue a U/A certificate to the film in a single day. The Supreme Court also observed that the order was without considering the plea filed by the Chairman of the Censor Board (CBFC).

On January 9, a single bench of the Madras High Court granted permission to release Jana Nayagan. Justice P T Asha issued this order. The single bench had also quashed the decision of the Censor Board Chairman to send the film to the revising committee. However, on the appeal of the Censor Board, the division bench of the high court stayed the release of the film that evening itself. Following this, the producers approached the Supreme Court.
