NEW DELHI: Opposition parties have launched a protest following Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's allegations that over one lakh votes were rigged in the last Lok Sabha elections in Karnataka's Mahadevapura assembly constituency. They will protest at the Election Commission headquarters in New Delhi today. Permission has been sought for a meeting with the Election Commissioners. Meanwhile, the Karnataka Chief Electoral Officer has rejected the allegations. Rahul Gandhi has been asked to present evidence.
Around 300 leaders of opposition parties will hold a demonstration led by Rahul Gandhi at 11.30 am today. They will hold placards with slogans like 'Vote theft' in languages including Malayalam during the demonstration towards the commission headquarters, which is a kilometer away from the Parliament premises. Delhi Police is trying to stop the demonstration.
Electoral officer says it is not a genuine document
Rahul Gandhi released a voting slip tick-marked by the booth officer to prove that a woman named Shakun Rani had voted twice in the last Lok Sabha elections in Mahadevapura Assembly constituency. The Chief Electoral Officer claims that this is not a genuine document.
In a letter to Rahul Gandhi, the Electoral Officer clarified that documents should be provided to prove it and an investigation will be conducted based on it.
Vote chori portal
The Congress has launched a web portal called Votechori.in to use the issue as a campaign tool on social media and to garner support for the voter list allegation. Support can be given by giving a missed call to 9650003420.
