Woman doctor assaulted by drunk men in hospital, accused flee 

MUMBAI: A woman doctor was assaulted in Mumbai amidst the outrage over the rape of a doctor at a hospital in Kolkata. The incident happened early Sunday morning at Mumbai’s Sion Hospital. The doctor on night duty was attacked by a six-member team accompanied by a drunk patient. They threatened the doctor and physically assaulted her.

The drunk men came with a patient with injuries on his face and while he was being treated, he and his relatives abused and threatened her. There are reports that the doctor sustained injuries in their attack. After assaulting her, the patient and his relatives fled from the spot. The police have started an investigation on the doctor’s complaint. It is not clear whether any hints have been obtained about the accused. The investigation is with the help of the CCTV visuals. The doctors’ organization have come forward against the incident. They blamed that this has revealed a security breach.

In the wake of the incident in Kolkata, the new incident came to light amid strong protests demanding the safety of health workers, including doctors. The Center had stated yesterday that it will form a high-level committee to recommend measures to ensure security.

Recently, there has been an increase in violence against health workers, including in Kerala. Vandana, a doctor, was killed in an attack at the hospital which created a lot of uproar.
