KANPUR: A woman was locked up in a room and released a snake to bite her over dowry demands. The shocking incident happened in Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur. The woman identified as Reshma was bitten by the snake. No one helped her even after she pleaded to her husband's family. Finally, Reshma's sister came and took her to the hospital. The incident happened on September 18.

After locking her in her room, the snake was released through a drain and the snake bit her leg in the middle of the night, said her sister Rizwana. Reshma screamed in pain, but her in-laws did not open the door. Reshma somehow called her sister and informed her about the incident. She reached immediately and took her to the hospital.

Reshma got married to Shanawas on March 19, 2021. Rizwana alleged that after marriage, Reshma's in-laws harassed and teased her over dowry. Her family gave her Rs 1.5 lakh as dowry a few years ago, but her in-laws demanded another Rs 5 lakh. They were not willing to meet their demands. A dispute broke out between the two families and it got worsened. Based on Rizwana's complaint, the police registered a case against Shanawaz, his parents, elder brother, sister and three others.
