PALAKKAD: A BJP activist, who was absconding after sexually assaulting an aged woman in Alathur, has been taken into custody. The police caught the accused identified as Suresh of Porulipadam from Palani. He sexually assaulted the 65-year-old woman staying in a poramboke land at Alathur in Palakkad. A case has been registered under sections attempt to rape and attempt to murder. His arrest will be registered soon.

His attack towards the woman staying alone was unexpected early morning at 3.30 am. She woke up hearing the sound of cutting through the thatched roof of her house while she was sleeping. When she tried to resist the attack, he tried to strangle her to death. The elderly woman managed to escape outside. Hearing the commotion, the neighbors came running. They took her to the hospital. After the police registered a case on the complaint of the elderly woman, Suresh went into hiding.

Before assaulting her, the visuals of the accused Suresh and three others sitting in public and drinking alcohol at the Padoor market had emerged. They also damaged the DYFI flex board at the market in an inebriated condition. BJP workers Vishnu and Aravind were arrested in this case and released on station bail. The BJP Kavasseri Panchayat Committee said in a press release that Suresh has no connection with the party. However, pictures of Suresh proving his party affiliation have also come to light.
