Youth arrested for attempting to kill uncle over love marriage dispute

KOCHI: A youth has been arrested for allegedly attempting to kill his uncle, who opposed his marriage to a girl he loved. The accused, Abhijith Prasad, a native of Ayyappankavu, was arrested by Kochi North Police. The incident took place on Monday morning in Ayyappankavu.

The uncle, who was travelling on a scooter, was rammed from behind by a car allegedly driven by the accused. CCTV footage from the area clearly indicates that the collision was deliberate. Police traced the suspect using the vehicle’s registration number captured in the footage.

According to the police, the injured uncle had been the main obstacle to the marriage between Abhijith and the girl. Due to this grudge, the accused allegedly planned the attack. The uncle, who sustained serious injuries in the incident, is currently undergoing treatment in a hospital. Police initially identified the car owner and later confirmed that Abhijith was behind the wheel at the time of the incident. A case of attempted murder has been registered against him, and further investigation is underway.
